The Formula Vee Festival at Mondello Park took place on the 21st & 22nd July 2012. The festival was in aid of Barretstown Children’s fund with all proceeds from the gate, programmes, auction, BBQ and simulator going to the charity thanks to the support of the sponsors Finol oils, Dunlop, and Micksgarage.com who covered all the costs of the weekend.
The fabulous weather, along with the promotion of the event attracted in a large crowd, and in the opinion of many of the motor racing enthusiasts present it was one of the biggest crowds at an event in Mondello for years.
Here at Finol we went all out and set up a big display in the paddock, with one of the biggest attractions of the weekend set up in our display, the F1 simulator we were busy all weekend with people visiting us to say hello and have a go at testing their driving skills on the simulator. Even the actual race drivers from the event were having ago, (some of them taking it very serious taking off their shoes and all to give better control on the pedals) everybody trying to get their name to the top of the leader board to win the trophy donated by Motorsport.ie.
All weekend there was exciting racing on the track as well with races for Formula Vee, Ginetta Juniors, Formula Ford, Global Lights, Irish Touring Cars, Formula Sheane and Historics.
The Formula Vee final result was 1st Kevin O'Hara, 2nd lee Newsome and 3rd Trevor Delaney.
As well as the racing there were other attractions on the weekend for the whole family to enjoy, with a bouncy castle and balloons for the kids, the Mondello museum was open and on the Saturday night there was a BBQ and charity auction to keep everybody entertained. In the paddock there was a display of air-cooled Bugs and Campers and on the Sunday they all got to do a few laps of the track in the parade.
The organisers of the weekend were delighted with how the event ran and monies raised from the weekend have exceeded €10,000.
