With the arrival of General Motors (GM) next generation Dexos® 1 specification, Dexos® 1 Gen 3, Petro Canada Lubricants believe that the challenges being posed by new engine hardware and new technologies are being met head on.

The dexos® engine oil specification represents a high-quality, robust oil formulated to some of the most rigorous specifications in the industry. Only licensed dexos® products have been certified by GM to meet the dexos® specification.
Dexos® 1 Gen 3 will be used by GM to meet their new hardware performance needs. GM has yet again improved performance with dexos® 1 Gen 3 in almost all areas, adding increased performance limits for the existing tests and replacing the legacy GMVFE and GMSPI tests with more demanding versions. As with previous generations Dexos® 1 Gen 3 will be backward compatible with the previous generation Dexos® 1, and by the end of September 2022 all Dexos® 1 Gen 2 products will have their licences cancelled if they have not updated to the new specification. Therefore, after this deadline if you are purchasing a product with a Dexos® 1 Gen 2 specification be sure to ask your supplier for the latest technical data sheet showing the update to Dexos® 1 Gen 3. As whilst there may be some stock of the Dexos® 1 Gen 2 product left, unless the product has the new generation specification which will be on replacement stock when it arrives than the Dexos® 1 Gen 2 will be invalid and you will need to change the oil you use to stay within warranty and engine guidelines.
