It is necessary to check the oil levels regularly because incorrect oil levels can cause serious damage in your engine. For this reason, Finol recommend that you always have a 1 litre bottle of lubricant in your vehicle to top-up whenever necessary.
Topping-up your engine with motor oil will refresh your engine and give you a smoother, quieter drive. And topping-up an engine when its oil level has fallen below the maximum can also protect your car from the pressures of modern-day motoring and reduce engine vibration. So, it is good practice to check your oil level regularly and refresh your engine with Total motor oil.
To Check the Oil Level follow these simple steps
- Park on the Level – Ensure that the vehicle is parked on the level, with the hand brake on and the engine off. Pull the lever (usually under the dashboard) to release the bonnet. Secure the bonnet open with its support. Avoid touching the hot engine. Allow one minute for the oil to settle.
- Remove Dipstick & Wipe Clean – Put on the protective gloves from the Top-up Kit and then locate the dipstick: the dipstick has a looped end and can be found protruding from the engine block. Remove and wipe clean with a cloth or paper towel. Replace the dipstick fully for several seconds than remove to study the oil level.
- Minimum & Maximum Levels – The oil level should fall somewhere between the minimum and maximum marks on the dipstick, and will need topping-up from your 1 litre pack.
- Remove the Oil Filler Cap – Locate and remove the oil filler cap to top-up the engine with the appropriate amount of engine oil, using a funnel. The scale on the bottle will indicate how much has been used; repeat steps 2 and 3 to check the new level.
- Replace Dipstick & Oil Filler Cap – Replace the dipstick and the oil filler cap securely. Clean any finger marks from the bonnet and any oil from the hands with a cloth, then close the bonnet. Please dispose of any waste materials in an appropriate place.
